This week, our #5 top fundraising school for 2018-2019 is Lake Shore Central School District!
Goin’ Bald for Bucks began when Lake Shore High School social studies teacher Tony George vowed to shave his head with his sister Cathleen while she was going through cancer treatment. He promised to not let his hair grow back until hers did.
When Mr. George told his students about his mission, many of them offered to join him. One student even suggested that they collect pledges before shaving their heads, and Bald for Bucks was born. In its first year, Mr. George and 36 Lake Shore High School students raised $3,600.
Seventeen years later, the tradition continues. The Lake Shore community team is led by Mr. George and math teacher Mrs. Kreinheder. This year, 40+ participants raised over $25,000! This fun-filled event features games, food, special guest appearances and a huge basket raffle.
Since that first event, the Lake Shore Central School District and community has raised $490,000 for Roswell Park.
