2018 was a great year for Beards for Bucks – more than 1,200 officers and sheriffs across Buffalo and Rochester raised an incredible $143,000 for Roswell Park!
In Buffalo, more than 700 participants rallied together to help raise funds for cancer research and patient-care programs. Police departments across the area grew out their moustaches and beards for the cause, including officers from Lockport, Buffalo, Kenmore and East Aurora. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office was able to bring together participants from its PBA (Police Benevolent Association), Holding Center Division and CSEA Corrections Unit. Additionally, Nussbaumer & Clarke, Inc., and Cutco Corporation grabbed the clippers to help raise money for cancer research.
This simple act had big results! Participants were able to surpass last year’s Beard for Bucks total by more than $5,000!
While it was only their second year participating, officers in Rochester made a huge impact. With more than 500+ participants fundraising for cancer cures, participants were able to triple last year’s fundraising total! Officers from all over rocked that no shave look, including Brockport, East Rochester, Fairport, Gates, Geneva, Greece, Ogden, Webster, Rochester Police Locust Club, Monroe, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Irondequoit Police. Funds raised will support both research at Roswell Park and 13Thirty Cancer Connect, which helps adolescents and young adults impacted by cancer live their very best lives in Rochester.
By growing out their beards and creating teams within their organizations, these participants were able to make a great impact on the lives of patients and families across Western New York. A little bit goes a long way and with the combined effort, their support makes a tremendous difference.
