A young girl with glasses smiles while holding a cut ponytail, proudly wearing a black cape that reads "Goin' Bald for Bucks" in a bright indoor setting with chairs and hair products visible.

It all started in a classroom …

Goin’ Bald for Bucks began with a promise between a brother and sister. Lake Shore High School teacher Tony George vowed to shave his head with his sister Cathleen while she was going through cancer treatment. He promised to not let his hair grow back until hers did.

When Mr. George told his students about his mission, many of them offered to join him. One student even suggested that they collect pledges before shaving their heads.

Goin’ Bald for Bucks was born!

In its first year, Mr. George and 36 Lake Shore High School students raised $3,600 for cancer research and patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since then, schools across Western New York have gone bald — joining forces in the fight against cancer and standing in solidarity with cancer patients!
